Well, quite frankly, I hate these extra steps. In Windows Vista, if you open a command prompt and try to run a process that requires elevated privileges, such as “ipconfig /release”, you will recieve the response that “The requested operation requires elevation.”. Does it provide some benefit to security? I think its only a small hurdle that any skilled hacker or cracker could find a way around…

The resolution is simple, right click on “Command Prompt” (Start > Programs > Accessories) and choose Run As Administrator.

That’s it…super simple – right? It gets even easier…

In the new Vista “run” box, type cmd and press Crtl-Shift-Enter. This will force Windows to run as Administrator. Of course, you will be prompt to confirm your action.
